Fruit Pizza Recipe

Fruit pizza is a sweet and delicious dessert that transforms the elements of a traditional pizza into the perfect components of a post-dinner treat. Savory pizza crust becomes a layer of mouthwatering sugar cookie, cream cheese frosting takes the place of the sauce and cheese, and these tasty elements are topped with fruit, fruit and more fruit.

To start with, you’ll want to whip together some homemade sugar cookie dough. For this dough, you’ll need:

  • 2 ¾ cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking powder

Start by mixing together the softened butter and sugar, then add the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Blend in the dry ingredients until you have a firm ball of dough, and chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. Press the chilled dough over the entire bottom of a cookie sheet or pizza pan and bake for about 18 minutes until the edges are just slightly brown.

While the dough crust is baking, you can make your frosting. You will need the following ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 Tbsp cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Blend the softened butter and cream cheese together first, then add the remaining ingredients and mix until smooth. You may need less than 2 tablespoons of cream depending on the desired thickness of your frosting.

Once your crust has finished baking, allow it to cool thoroughly before you spread the frosting over the top. Finally, it’s time to top your dessert with fruit.

What fruit? Well, that’s entirely up to you! Whatever your favorite fruit happens to be, it’s sure to taste great on a fruit pizza. Ideally, you want to use a variety of fruit to create a delicious flavor combination as well as a beautiful design for the top of your pizza. Popular fruit pizza toppings include strawberries, kiwi fruit, peaches, pears, apricots, blueberries, raspberries, grapes and mandarin oranges.

For a final, decadent touch, consider topping your fruit pizza with a drizzle of chocolate syrup or a dollop of whipped cream.
